Hisco gives back to the community with Tour de Pink fundraising

HOUSTON, October 26, 2011 – Hisco, an employee-owned, specialty distribution company, located in northwest Houston, fielded a strong team at last month’s Tour de Pink bicycle ride to raise funds for cancer research.  The Hisco riders brought in double their original fundraising goal. The 17-member team set $5,000 as a target and the just-announced final tally was $10,000. That ranks the freshman Hisco team as sixth out of the 99 teams participating. With 1,583 participants, the total raised at the event was over $330,000.

The Tour de Pink 2011 celebrated its seventh anniversary this year and is the first bike ride in Texas that solely benefits breast cancer. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer with 40,000 breast cancer deaths this year alone. In the US, there are 2.4 million diagnosed and treated for breast cancer.

“This is such a worthwhile cause and it was the first cycling benefit at Hisco,” said Bob Dill, president of Hisco. “As it was such as rewarding experience, we’re now looking toward building a team for the MS150 next April. That’s a more ambitious event, riding from Houston to Austin over two days, but we’re up to it. At Hisco, we try to give back to the community; with these events we challenge ourselves at the same time. It is a win-win situation.”
